Kafka
Have you read The Metamorphosis — and felt it wasn't for you? Kafka deserves a second chance!
Far from the image of a gloomy writer, Franz Kafka was a curious observer of the world — a traveller, an avid swimmer and rower, a vegetarian, and a man fascinated by modern technology.
For more than 20 years, I have been researching Kafka's life and travels, uncovering a lesser-known, surprisingly modern Kafka — someone who explored Europe, followed new inventions, and actively experienced the world around him. My work includes the book Journeys of Kafka including 70 Kafka´s authentic locations in Europe. I collaborate with leading Kafka scholars, including Reiner Stach, Hans-Gerd Koch, and Kathi Diamant.
What makes my Kafka different? This is not the usual story about a writer sitting at a desk.
I focus on Kafka in motion:
- travelling across Europe as a curious traveller
- swimming and rowing in Prague
- observing modern life and technology as aeroplanes, metro or automobiles
- searching for balance through a healthy lifestyle
My guided walks: Kafka in Prague – Following a curious traveller
On my walks, we explore places that are often missing from standard tours:
- Kafka's favourite park near Prague Castle, where he walked and observed the city
- places connected to swimming and rowing — including where he wrote The Metamorphosis
- the site of his early career in an international insurance company, which inspired his first published report on aviation
- access to a unique library connected to Kafka's personal collection
What I offer
- guided Kafka walks in Prague
- lectures and talks
- research collaborations for films, books, and projects
